Vivienne has been singing since an early age, where she entertained her family and friends. As a professional, Vivienne has sung for television, radio and live engagements such as the International Jazz Festival. She has recorded on many different occasions including movie sound tracks, other people’s albums and 3 of her own Compact Disc’s. She got her start when Oliver Jones requested her to be engaged at Biddles, a Jazz institution in Montreal. She worked with Tim Jackson and Skip Bey for close to 15 years, singing on out door stages and the quaint jazz bars. Her work with the Perry Carmen Orchestra lasted a year as she moved on to her own trio which Perry booked. Vivienne was contracted to do 4 half hour shows for the Bravo Television Network. Vivienne has been coaching voice students since 1988. She was recommended to do so by Carmen Mehta, her voice teacher at Concordia. She has worked with individuals and groups. She has given vocal workshops around the city. She combines classical technique with whatever style a student might want to learn. The basis for a good singer is to learn about their instruments, and a classical base never harmed a voice. Vivienne worked with Carmen for 4 years as she studied the Puccini and Mozart Arias. At the same time she was working in Jazz clubs making a career for herself. She encourages her students to have variety in their repertoire. She has worked with many groups around the city. She has been hired to put together vocal groups for benefits concerts and Christmas shows.
Her main outlook is to teach the pupil all the aspects of vocal technique to make beautiful music.
Vivienne has been officially directing choirs for 6 years. She has worked with groups in the past. Children’s choirs, vocal ensembles etc… but has acquired a paid position with several churches, and community choirs. She worked for the University of Montreal for 8 semesters directing a gospel choir. Her preferred style is Gospel, but can be found at Wesley directing Bach and other classical based works. She also enjoys Latin and whatever else she can get a hold of that might be pleasing to the ear. She has been writing for her choirs for several years. Her intentions are to make a gospel album album of original pieces in the near future.
Vivienne has been working for the last 8 years with children from the age of 18 months to 5 years, teaching them music from rhythm and notes to identifying instruments and singing songs. She helps them explore through visuals, movement, and just experiencing feeling music of different styles as they interact. Vivienne has 2 children’s CD’s of all original songs written especially with Children’s learning in mind. The songs again are of different styles and vary in topics form bugs to upside down. She loves working with children and they seem to love her. She will continue to produce children’s music as long as the songs keep coming.
